The gills are the whole personality: curly pink fronds branching out on either side of the head, doing exactly what real axolotl gills do, just shrunk down and stylized. Soft peach pink covers the rest.
Two black dot eyes sit forward on the face, and four stubby legs keep the body low to whatever it is resting on. The tail curves up at the end, the one hint of motion in an otherwise very chill pose.
Real axolotls smile all the time and mean nothing by it. It keeps the tradition going, no mouth required.
